Cybersecurity Month 2023

Published October 1, 2023

October is Cybersecurity Month, and at Neighborhood Credit Union, we want to emphasize just how crucial it is to protect your digital world. Cybersecurity isn't just a concern for businesses; it's vital for everyone when safeguarding personal data. We're dedicated to ensuring the security of your information and empowering you with knowledge to enhance your digital safety.

Top 5 Actions for Improved Cybersecurity

Strong Passwords: Protect your accounts with robust passwords. We recommend using at least 16 characters, incorporating letters, numbers, and special characters. A strong password is your first line of defense.

Two-Factor Authorization (2FA): Enhance security by implementing 2FA. This adds an extra layer of protection through a text message or authentication app in conjunction with your password.
Regular Software Updates: Out-of-date software is more vulnerable to cyberattacks. Ensure your operating systems, applications, and antivirus software are up-to-date to reduce security risks.

Beware of Phishing Attempts: Exercise caution when receiving unsolicited emails or text messages. Don't click on links or open attachments from unfamiliar sources. Phishing is a common tactic used by cybercriminals to steal your information.

Back Up Your Data: Prepare for the unexpected. Regularly back up your data to an external source or cloud storage. This ensures that you won't lose essential information in the event of a cyberattack.
