According to history.com:
Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. Also known as African American History Month, the event grew out of “Negro History Week,” the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. Other countries around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote a month to celebrating Black history.

The lobby of AT&T headquarters in downtown Dallas will be transformed into the Piney Woods of East Texas to tell the story of a man’s mission to restore his family’s nearly 200-year-old cemetery and uncover connections to his enslaved ancestors. Journalist Rodney Hawkins reported his story on CBS Mornings, then produced an art gallery exhibition. Now the story of the restoration of Old Mount Gillion Cemetery is an immersive, multipart exhibit featuring the photography of Ghanaian American photographer Kwesi Yanful, who chronicled the cemetery restoration.
Complementary works from Dallas artists T’Ria Hurd and Trevor Donaldson are also included. In conjunction with the exhibition, there will be a Black business owners market at the AT&T Discovery District on Feb. 11 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; check the website for details.
