Neighborhood Credit Union Celebrating 10 Years of Prize Savings

Published February 15, 2018

DALLAS, Texas—Ten years is a big milestone, and Neighborhood Credit Union is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its Prize Savings Account by giving away $1,000 every week. Normally, the credit union awards $1,000 plus other monthly cash prizes.

Weekly winners are revealed every Friday at noon on Neighborhood CU’s Facebook page via Facebook Live. Members are chosen at random and every $25 weekly average balance equals one entry.

Neighborhood CU launched its Prize Savings Account in 2008 in hopes of showing members how forming a consistent savings plan can bring big rewards not only with monthly cash prizes, but also having a healthy safety net in the need to cover emergency expenses ever arose.

“This is our way of showing appreciation to our members for being fantastic savers,” said Chet Kimmell, president at Neighborhood Credit Union. “Our hopes are that this continues to set Prize Savings apart from the competition like it has for past 10 years.”

During the program’s early years, the prizes weren’t as robust as they are now. At first, Neighborhood CU was awarding smaller cash and physical prizes like iPods, cameras, and DVD players. Over time the Prize Savings Account was expanded to include a large grand prize, quarterly, and monthly prizes.

“We’ve definitely come a long way,” Kimmell said. “Over time we’ve seen how much our members enjoy the Prize Savings Account. It really shows that saving money can be fun and sometimes earn you an unexpected reward.”

In addition to the $1,000 weekly drawings, members are also eligible for quarterly $10,000 drawings. At the conclusion of each year, a Grand Prize winner is drawn for the $49,999.99 jackpot based on the average monthly balance in the savings account at the close of business December 31.
